Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) in the year 2022 has recorded tremendous achievements in the course of discharging its statutory duties.
KAROTA Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar Kofar Naisa in a press release said that the 2022 Year, is a special one considering notable grounds covered by the agency.
“We have succeeded in recruiting over 500 new personnel which has further increased our presence in the state, particularly within the metropolis as well as the creation of new zonal offices at Tudun Wada and Doguwa, respectively.
This development has led to drastic reduction of road offences recorded in the agency between January to December as only 3,245 offenders were arrested as against 7835 recorded in the previous year.
Also, undern the year in review, KAROTA succeeded in registering a total of 52,242 tricycles under the Kano Tricycle Permit System. We are proud to inform the general public that through this system, a lot of bad eggs among the tricycle operators have been arrested.
We have been able to identify and arrest phone snatchers who at a point, terrorized the state mostly using the popular Adaidaita Sahu (Tricycle) for such crimes.
This registration is very important to us because, anyone who’s tricycle is dully registered will not use it to commit any crime knowing fully well he will be caught.
Another achievement worth mentioning is the interception of alcoholic drinks worth over N500 Million by personnel of the agency at different locations in the state.
As you all know, consumption of alcohol is prohibited in the state and KAROTA will not fold it arms and watch some persons transport such product into Kano.
Driving under the influence of alcohol can lead to ugly incidence, it is our duty to ensure safety of lives and properties while using our roads as such will not allow these products to find its ways in to our society.
Furthermore, we have also successfully demolished illegal structures blocking roads within the metropolis and in some major markets which obstructed free flow of traffic.
Before now, a lot of illegal structures have been erected by some selfish individuals who cared only about themselves and decided to make life difficult for motorists by embarking on such buildings.
Through our legal department, were able to obtain court warrants that gave us the power to bring down these illegal structures and we wish to reiterate that, henceforth, anyone who erects any illegal structure on any of our roads will not be spared.
Another remarkable achievement recorded under the year in review is the passing into law, the Kano Road Traffic Agency Law, 2022 (Ammendement No.1) by the State House of Assembly.
14. This law, no doubt, will further assist us in the smooth conducts of our operations in the state.
The above achievements couldn’t have been made without the cooperation of the general public. We sincerely wish to express our profound gratitude to the teaming populace of the State and assured them of doing more in the coming year to safeguard them while using the roads.
