TWO BUILDING COLLAPSES REPORTED IN KANO STATE:
The Kano State Fire Service has reported two separate building-collapse incidents that occurred on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at Gaida in Kumbotso Local Government Area and Kurna in Fagge Local Government Area.
Kano State Fire Service emergency response unit received two distress calls at approximately 2:34 pm. and 2:40 pm, respectively.
The calls were received from DSP Ahmad Sani and Umar Sani, who reported the incidents.
1. Building Collapse at Gaida, Kumbotso LGA
After receiving the report, men from the Kano State Fire Service Headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene at Gaida, near Salbas Filling Station.
Upon arrival, they discovered that an incomplete building under construction, measuring approximately 50 × 50 feet, had collapsed.
The collapse affected six workers who were at the site.
Two of the victims were rescued alive:
– Muhammad Hassan, approximately 17 years old.
– Khalid Abubakar, approximately 19 years old.
Four other victims were rescued unconscious and latter confirm their death:
– Sunusi Surajo, approximately 18 years old.
– Bashir Ibrahim, approximately 20 years old.
– Ibrahim Ibrahim, approximately 25 years old.
– Abubakar, approximately 30 years old.
All six victims were evacuated and conveyed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
They were subsequently handed over to Inspector Adamu Garba of the Kofar Wanbai Police Division.
2. Building Collapse at Kurna, Fagge LGA.
The second incident occurred at Kurna, behind the Primary School, in Fagge Local Government Area.
Our men from the Kurna Fire Station were immediately mobilized to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that an islamiyya school building known as Khadija Idris Bala had collapsed.
The incident affected nine students.
Eight of the victims were rescued alive:

– Zulaihat M Gambo, approximately 13 years old.
– Nawara Yahaya, approximately 12 years old.
– Nusaiba Isah approximately 12 years old,
– Hasiya Munir approximately 12 years old,
– Khadija Isah approximately 15 years old,
– Hadiza Haruna approximately 12 years old,
The last victim was rescued unconscious and latter confirm their death:
– Khadija Muhammad approximately 14 years old,
All victims They were subsequently handed over to school headmaster Muhammad Gambo Usman.
The cause of both building collapses is currently under investigation.
The Kano State Fire Service has urged members of the public, particularly building owners, contractors and construction workers, to observe all necessary safety precautions and comply with appropriate building standards, especially during the rainy season, in order to minimise the risk of building collapsed.
