Pakistan Becomes Founding Member of China-Led Global AI Organization

Pakistan has signed on as a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), a new international body led by China and aimed at promoting cooperation on artificial intelligence. The agreement was signed in Shanghai by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, alongside representatives from 28 participating countries.

According to the announcement, WAICO seeks to establish a global framework for the development and governance of artificial intelligence. The organization says it will promote AI that is fair, safe, inclusive, and beneficial to all countries while encouraging international collaboration on emerging technologies.

Pakistan described its participation as an important step toward strengthening cooperation in science, technology, and digital innovation. Officials said the country hopes to contribute to global discussions on AI standards, research, and responsible use of the technology.

The launch of WAICO reflects China’s growing efforts to expand international cooperation in artificial intelligence and shape global AI governance. The initiative brings together member countries to work on common principles and policies for the development and regulation of AI in the years ahead.
