The Traditional Council of Wambai Market in Kano has called on traders and other stakeholders to support its efforts to provide security gates across the market to strengthen security and protect lives and property.
The Sarkin Kasuwar Wambai, Alhaji Bashir Adamu Mai Lemon Tsami, made the appeal during a ceremony marking his sixth anniversary on the throne, held in Kano.
The market leader expressed appreciation to the Wakilin Gabas, Alhaji Faruk Sani, his representatives, including the Sardauna and Waziri, as well as other members of the traditional council, for their support and commitment to the market’s development.
He also thanked the traders for their cooperation and what he described as their 100 per cent support for the traditional leadership, noting that their unity remained essential to achieving the council’s objectives.
Speaking at the event, the Waziri of the Sarkin Kasuwa, Alhaji Muhd Sani Nuhu, popularly known as Alhaji Sani Mai Aure, expressed delight over the establishment of a new office for the traditional council, describing the development as a significant achievement.
He commended the Sarkin Kasuwa for appointing district heads who, according to him, had performed creditably and helped enhance the reputation of the traditional institution.
Alhaji Nuhu, who said he had known the Sarkin Kasuwa for more than 25 years, described himself as one of the traditional ruler’s closest associates.
He urged traders, particularly wealthy business owners in the market, to support the traditional council’s initiative to provide security gates throughout the market.
The Sarkin Inyamurai of Wambai Market, His Highness Samuel Ikechukwu Duke, also congratulated Alhaji Bashir Adamu on his sixth anniversary on the throne.
He described the Sarkin Kasuwa as a patient, honest, resilient, fair and trustworthy leader, adding that the traditional ruler was not driven by greed and did not rely solely on his title for survival, as he had a viable business of his own.
Duke further disclosed that he had recorded about 1,500 achievements during his two-and-a-half years on the throne as the Sarkin Inyamurai of Wambai Market, having assumed the position approximately three years ago.
He explained that traders in the market had frequently encountered difficulties that resulted in the loss of money and merchandise before he assumed office.
According to him, the situation has significantly improved since he became the traditional leader, adding that the previous challenges had become a thing of the past.
The Igwe, however, urged traders to avoid excessively increasing the prices of their goods, stressing the importance of fair pricing in ensuring sustainable profits and maintaining good business relationships with customers.
The anniversary celebration brought together members of the traditional council and other stakeholders to recognise the Sarkin Kasuwa’s leadership and highlight the importance of cooperation in promoting security, unity and commercial activities at Wambai Market.
