The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Kano State Council, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim has called on Journalists to focus on Development Journalism rather than placing much emphasis on sensational reportage, ahead of 2023 general elections.
The chairman made the call while distributing eight desktops computer sets to six selected chapels of the Council.
He explained that journalism is noble profession which is guided by code of ethics.
The chairman further explained that Journalists need to conduct their activities within the confines of the ethics, noting that with the advent of information technology, media facing challenges which require Journalists to proffer solutions.
“What ever we do, is good we put our society at the back of our minds, especially at this time, we’re approaching General Elections,” he said.
He stated that the union under his watch is currently in contact with other development partners with a view to providing capacity to its members.
He revealed that the six chapels benefited from the gesture including: Radio Kano and Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) Chapels got two computers each, while Correspondent, Information, Pyramid FM and NTA Kano Chapels obtained one each.
He enjoined members to judiciously used the computers donated to them, adding that the gesture will further develop news production in their stations.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries Chairman, information chapel Comrade Maikudi Muhd Marafa applauded the gesture of State Council, stressing that the computers will be used judiciously.
“This Council will always be remembered for the legacy,” he further said.
