Three students lost their following a thunderstorm that struck on Saturday in Awka, Anambra state.
The students were playing football in their school field when the heavy rain in Awka came with clapping thunderstorm.
Nine of them who were struck down were rushed to hospital where three of them were declared dead by a medical doctor.
Six other students are still receiving medical attention as parents and residents trooped to the hospital to sympathize with the bereaved families.
According to an eye witness, the school coach ended a training session with them before the rain started while the nine of them continued playing football in the field.
It was not long before the thunder struck, and they were rushed to a mission hospital where six were revived.
