The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced more than $168 billion in investments across Africa since 2017, targeting key sectors including ports, mining, agriculture and renewable energy.
UAE companies such as DP World and Abu Dhabi Ports are expanding their operations across African trade routes, including ports, inland terminals and logistics networks.
The investment raises questions about whether African countries can use the foreign capital to develop infrastructure, local industries and businesses, or remain mainly exporters of raw materials and goods.
