The Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA), National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Kano state branch, Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) have today staged a peaceful protest and march to the Kano state government house in protest against the violence against women and children.
The March which was organized by FIDA in collaboration with other groups took off from Kano office of FIDA through state road and terminated at the government house, saw women groups such as NAWOJ, FOMWAN and others participating.
FIDA Chairperson, Kano state branch Bilkisu Ibrahim Suleiman explained that they staged the walk to call the attention of state government to come to the aid of women and children in respect of violence and torture.
“When ever women were tortured, assaulted, children may also be affected in one way or the other”. “But if people were found wanting on such act and be prosecuted, other tend to find it difficult in committing such act”.
On her part, NAWOJ Chairperson Kano state chapter comrade Bilkisu Ado Zango said the protest in aimed bringing the attention of stakeholder in fighting the menace.
Also remarking, the cheif security, Kano state government house Muawuya Muhammad who represented the state governor assured the women groups of the government’s readiness to tackle the menace of violence faced by women and children and promise to transform their agitation to the governor.
