The Commissioner for the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in Kano State, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has promised to revive Radio Kano and other agencies under his ministry. He said efforts are already underway to repair facilities and improve the welfare of staff working in the state media sector.
Speaking during a special live radio program, Waiya stated that he would review the suspension of annual salary increases introduced by the previous administration. He added that discussions are ongoing with relevant authorities to find a lasting solution that will benefit workers.
On political matters, the commissioner expressed sympathy for former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over recent challenges within the New Nigeria Peoples Party. He also dismissed reports claiming that Kwankwaso plans to leave the party for another political platform.
Waiya praised the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his leadership style, especially in promoting consensus during political decisions. He cited the selection of Murtala Sule Garo as deputy governor as an example of effective leadership.
On security, the commissioner said the state government is strengthening safety measures through initiatives such as Operation Safe Corridor, neighbourhood watch groups, and anti-phone snatching operations, all in collaboration with federal security agencies.
He also revealed that the state government has approved over 21 billion naira for water supply projects in Tamburawa and Challawa to address water shortages affecting residents. In addition, the government continues to invest in road construction and infrastructure development across Kano State.
The program was broadcast live on Radio Kano and aired simultaneously on several other stations. It was hosted by Nura Bala Ajingi of Radio Kano, alongside Tukur S. Tukur of Rahama Radio and Abdulbaki Ali Ahmed Sharifai of Guarantee Radio.
