Iran launched missiles and drones at several Gulf countries on Sunday morning in what it described as retaliation for a series of U.S. military strikes. Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates were reportedly targeted in the attacks.
Qatar said three people, including a child, were injured by falling shrapnel, while no immediate fatalities were reported in the affected countries.
The U.S. said its strikes were carried out after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) allegedly fired on a Cyprus-registered container ship accused of using an “unauthorised route” through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Washington, the operation targeted Iranian missile and drone launch sites, naval facilities, ammunition depots, communication systems, and surveillance installations.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) warned that the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains “severe.” Although Iran claimed the strategic waterway had been closed, the UKMTO said a southern shipping route remains open but cautioned that vessels face a potential threat from naval mines.
