KAROTA arrested 2,868 traffic offenders in 2023

The Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) said it has arrested 2,868 road offenders from January to December.

The Public Relations Officer of the Agency, Nabilusi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa disclosed this to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano.

He said the number of offenders had reduced in 2023 compared to previous year were we record 3,000 offenders.

According to him, “out of the 2,868 offenders, 542 refused to accept their offences were taken to our mobile court while 2,583 accepted their offences and paid their charges instantly.

“The remaining 43 arrested were discharged and acquitted by the court.

“In 2023, we confiscated about 25000,000 bottles of beer worth N500 million.

“We hand the bottles of beer to Kano state Hisbah board for further investigation”,he said.

Abubakar futher explained that the Agency had deployed personnel to strategic places to curtail smuggling of beer into the Kano state from neighbouring states.

“Our plans for this year is to train all our personnel on how to relate with motorists, know more about traffic offences among others.

“We have also translated “Karota law” into Hausa to help motorists within the state to know more about rules and regulations of the Agency”, he said.

The PRO said that the Agency will create awareness to motorists through the media to enable know about new policy and reduce offences on the road.

The PRO disclosed that the Agency will procure more vehicles and power bikes in other make the work easier for its personnel.

He also said that this year the agency will employ more personnel for additional manpower
