Former Nigerian Army Spokesperson Dies in Kidnappers’ Custody in Katsina

Katsina, Nigeria — Former Nigerian military spokesperson, Major General Abubakar Rabe, died on Saturday, June 13, 2026, while being held captive by armed bandits in Katsina State.

The Katsina State Government confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security, Nasiru Mu’azu. According to the statement, the retired senior military officer died as a result of complications from diabetes and high blood pressure while in captivity.

The government noted that despite extensive efforts by state authorities and security agencies to secure his safe release, they were unable to rescue him alive.

His death has plunged his family, the people of Katsina State, and the nation at large into mourning and grief.
