Women Urged to Prioritise Children’s Upbringing, Especially Those Who Have Lost Their Fathers

Women have been urged to remain committed to the proper upbringing of their children, particularly those who have lost their fathers, to ensure they grow into responsible and morally upright members of society.

The call was made by the leader of the Women Sufis Association and Naqihbatul Khadiriyya, Gwana Baraka Adamu Danfanta, during the association’s annual Maulud celebration, which marked its 18th edition.

The event was organised to commemorate renowned Islamic saints, including Sheikh Abdulqadir and Sheikh Nasmal Faituri, whose lives and exemplary character continue to serve as sources of inspiration to Muslims.

Gwana Baraka explained that the purpose of the Maulud gathering was to educate women on the importance of good parenting and how mothers can contribute to raising children who will become successful in and respected members of society.

She noted that although the revered Islamic figures being commemorated grew up as orphans, their mothers did not neglect their responsibilities. Instead, they remained committed to their upbringing, helping to shape the exemplary lives for which they are remembered today.

According to her, the central message of the gathering is to encourage women to raise their children with discipline, good moral values and a strong sense of responsibility, so that they can become people of integrity rather than notorious liars, deceivers or individuals known for other undesirable behaviours resulting from parental neglect.

Speaking at the event, Malama Sha’awanatu Dahiru of Soron Dinki said it would be difficult to raise morally upright children if mothers themselves failed to demonstrate good character.
She urged women to emulate the mothers of the revered saints being commemorated, stressing the importance of learning from their commitment to raising their children.

She further observed that the current state of moral upbringing in society requires serious attention and prayers, as concerns about the decline in proper child upbringing continue to grow.

Our correspondent, Jamila Sulaiman Aliyu, reports that the Maulud gathering was organised exclusively for women and attracted a large number of participants from within and outside the state.
