The online chappel has organized a one-day training workshop for its members on effective and professional election coverage.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkhadir Dangambo, said the workshop was organized in collaboration with the Aminu Magashi Garba (AGM) Foundation to equip members with the knowledge and skills needed to report elections responsibly.
According to Dangambo, such capacity-building initiatives help improve journalists’ professional competence and prepare them to carry out their duties effectively at different stages of the electoral process.
The training was facilitated by the former Chairman of the Association, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, who delivered presentations on election reporting before, during, and after elections. He also educated participants on personal safety measures and strategies for avoiding security risks that often threaten journalists and the public during election periods.
In his remarks, the former Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Information, Comrade Usman Bello, urged journalists to prioritize their safety by adhering to the professional guidelines and safety procedures taught during the training, stressing that doing so would contribute to successful and responsible election reporting.
The workshop was attended by several media stakeholders and leaders, including the Chairperson of the Women Journalists Association, Comrade Bahijja Malam Kabara; the Chairman of the Kano State Council of Journalists, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi; the Publisher of Solacebase, Abdullateef Abubakar Jos; Barrister Nura Kanet; and other distinguished guests.
Our correspondent, Jamila Sulaiman Aliyu, reports that the workshop took place at the Secretariat of the Association of Journalists and attracted a large number of online journalists.
