More than 5,000 residents from several communities in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State staged a peaceful protest to express their grievances over the lack of basic social amenities, particularly electricity supply. The demonstrators came from Kubaraci, Tsauni, Kasuwar Gemu, and Fulatan communities, calling on their elected representatives and the state government to urgently address their long-standing challenges.
During the protest, the residents appealed to their federal lawmaker, Yusif Umar Datti, Kano Central Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, the member representing Madobi Local Government at the state level, Suleman Muktar, and the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to intervene in their situation. They said the absence of electricity and other basic infrastructure has negatively affected daily life and economic activities in the area.
Speaking to journalists, including a correspondent from Aksam Media, Dantala Uba Nuhu Kura the protesters explained that electricity poles were installed in their communities more than 20 years ago, yet power has still not been connected. According to them, the continued delay has left thousands of residents without access to stable electricity despite repeated promises and appeals to authorities over the years.
The residents further revealed that they had written several letters to different lawmakers and government officials requesting the completion of the electricity project, but their efforts had not produced meaningful results. They therefore appealed directly to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to urgently address the problem and bring relief to the affected communities, saying access to electricity would greatly improve living conditions and economic opportunities in the area.
