The International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a parodic holiday. It was created in 1995 by the Americans John Baur (Ol’ Chumbucket) and Mark Summers ( Cap’n Slappy) because of their romanticizing, transfigured view of the so-called – Golden Age of Piracy. The day is celebrated annually on September 19th. On this day, for example, instead of the usual greetings like – hello, you should use phrases or accents based on the cliché of an allegedly special pirate language.
